Many of my friends usually report that their PC or notebooks are too slow and takes a lot of time to start. Especially on the system running Windows this problem is generally encountered just because the management of your machine is not done properly. Like, people usually have the habit of keeping too many shortcuts on their desktop but this is not recommended as it consumes a lot of CPU’s memory cycles.
Speeding up your computer is not always a easy task to pursue but there are many ways we can increase the speed of our systems to a certain extent. I will be presenting here 5 simple steps which if you perform on your PC or laptop will definitely make your system run faster.
5 Simple ways to speed up your computer running Windows 7
Step 1) There are many unwanted programs that run when your windows starts up thereby increasing the overall booting time which reduces PC’s efficiency. To remove them from the start up list just do the following.
(a) Start (b) Type or click Run (c) Type msconfig (d) Navigate to the Startup Tab (e) Now uncheck the programs that you don’t want to run at start up (f) Click Apply to Save changes (g) Reboot the system
Step 2) Similarly, you can navigate to the Boot tab in msconfig to reduce the startup delay. Start Up delay is the time allocated by the CPU to allow rest for the processes before they get ready for booting. The default Timeout generally is set to 30 sec, you should reduce it to 10 secs.(a) Open msconfig (b) Navigate to Boot Tab (c) Change the time to 10 sec in the timeout field (d) Select Apply to save changes
Step 3) A regular check on your hard drive for errors can considerably reduces the effort made by the CPU to access the resources. You should periodically check health of your hard drive and errors that may occur, you can do this by ,
(a) Start (b) Open My Computer (c) Right Click the drive you want to check for errors (d) Select Properties (e) Navigate to Tools tab (f) Go for the option “Check Now”
It will take some time to check for the errors and the same will be reported to you. Just close the window after you are done.
Step 4) Data on your hard drive is not always stored by us in a sequential manner which results in more searching operation for CPU. Hence, it will take more time to load. Technically, this is called Defragmentation which reorganizes the filling system on your hard drive. You can do this as follows,
(a) Start (b) Open My Computer (c) Right Click the drive you want to defragment (d) Select Properties (e) Navigate to Tools tab (f) Click “Defragment Now”
Now you will directed to a window where you will be having many options , Select the drive from the list and click on Defragment disk option. Windows also provide the utility for configuring schedule for Defragmentation.
Step 5) It is always recommended to use Third party softwares but again the problem is which one to choose. Certainly the best one I have used till now is Tune up Utilities, you can easily get this software from internet.
Note :- If you really want to improve the booting time of your computer than switch to Windows 8 it is way better and faster than any other previous versions. If you have any problem following these steps, than the comments section is awaiting your presence.
